OEDIPUS REX

The cover design for Oedipus Rex focuses on connection—bringing typography, symbolism, and texture together to create one story and one destined fate. The typography leads the design, guiding the viewer’s eye and holding everything together. This reflects how Oedipus’s life is shaped by a series of connected events that all lead to the same unavoidable outcome.

The “X” represents the crossroads where Oedipus unknowingly fulfills part of his prophecy. It is not the main focus, but instead blends into the overall design, showing that this moment is just one part of a larger journey. It reinforces the idea that every choice and path is connected to his fate.

The gradient shows the shift between light and darkness, symbolizing Oedipus’s movement from ignorance to truth. Light represents knowledge, while darkness represents blindness. As the gradient moves through the design, it reflects how the truth slowly reveals itself over time.

The white condensed typography adds structure and clarity. Its tight spacing creates a feeling of pressure, showing how Oedipus is trapped by fate. It connects all the visual elements, helping the design feel unified and controlled.

The pupil represents blindness and fate, tying directly to Oedipus’s story. It symbolizes both sight and the lack of it, reflecting the irony that he cannot see the truth until it is too late. The rough texture adds tension and imperfection, mirroring the emotional weight of the tragedy and the unraveling of his identity. Together, these elements show how everything is connected and leads to one inevitable fate.
